Andratx - big damages after storm

Puerto de Andratx is the most western port of the island and the exterior quai was opened in 1902.

In octuber and november 2009 the strong winds affected Puerto de Andratx in particular. 19 boats, most sailing yacht over 12 meters length have been destroyed or seriously damaged and a big number of small boats. 8 large boats over 10 meters in length have been sunk, and only 2 have been revive.
 

The owners of the damaged boats by the storm don’t have any problem to recuperate the damages. Because of the unusual nature of the strong gusts of wind that reached over 135km / h, the “Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros” assumed all the damage.
 

A similar very intense and short lived storm was in Palma de Mallorca in September of 1985 when a big number of damages boats and sunk in Club de Mar was regitered.
